Although it will not be officially available in the US well into 2009, gamers can now buy the Nintendo DSi via an online videogame site.

Hong Kong-based RenChi.com is offering either the white and black DSi console for $249.

Discussing the system, the firm states: "Although the user interface of the Nintendo DSi is only in Japanese, all Nintendo DS games are still compatible, regardless of region."

RenChi says it has cut the price of the DSi by 17%.

"While many retailers are still selling at a much higher price, our stock level has stablised and we choose to pass the savings back to the consumers", said a company spokesperson

The Nintendo DSi launched in Japan only on November 1st and sold over 170,000 units in its first two days on sale.

The machine is about 12% thinner than the Nintendo DS Lite and it features two VGA (0.3 megapixel) cameras; one on the internal hinge pointed towards the user and the second one on the outside of the shell.

The DSi also has larger screens (3.25 inches, up from 3 inches) and improved speakers. The power switch has been replaced with a power button, as the original DS had, now located next to the bottom left side of the touch screen.

The DSi has five brightness settings compared to the DS Lite's four, however the battery life is reduced compared to its predecessor.

The Nintendo DSi will have upgradable firmware like its competitor, the PlayStation Portable, which is a first for a Nintendo handheld system.
