The colorful, rounded and child-friendly GameCube controller soon became a staple of the miniature system, but an East Texas jury has decided that the controller wasn't Nintendo's to make.

The decision came at the end of a lengthy court case after Anascape charged Nintendo with patent infringement in 2006.

The jury decided that the standard GameCube, wireless Wavebird Gamecube, and the Wii Classic controllers all infringe on Anascape peripheral patents.

Nintendo says they plan to appeal and expect the $21 million fine will be significantly reduced.

Anascape has also launched a lawsuit against Microsoft for similar peripheral infringement issues.
